Siphamandla

Ex

My work is an investigation into how we internalize acts of violence and act it out sometimes, this could be ended by a better understanding of the human condition, my art works are viewed as conversation starters around these issues, because the solution to the violence requires not just me, but everybody's involvement and contribution because it affects us all.

Sibusiso

Makhunga

Sibusiso Makhunga, born and raised in Richards Bay Kwa Zulu Natal (KZN), is a self-taught artist who quit his 9-5 job to pursue his inner calling as an artist. He has been mentored by Thonton Kabeya (an established Congolese artist). Among current and prior exhibitions this is one of his highlights, he sold out at the RnB turbine art fair in 2019 on his first group show with One Art Gallery followed by an exhibition in November at Bag Factory Summer Salon 2019.

Lebohang

Sithole

“Part of him is in me” Lebohang was named after his grandfather who was called Mfana Enoch Sithole. He says: “I am told that he was a musician and a prophet. Ironically, I was born on the same day that he died. Almost everything that my grandfather did during his lifetime is similar to my own life. He is the only person in my family with whom I feel really connected. My artwork is inspired by the journey travelled by grandfather who was a singer and organist for the Amajembe Jazz Band. It is about the fact that one can inherit a gene from a family member and be recognized as that person. When I visit my grandfather’s house, I feel like I have lived there. When I touch my grandfather’s instruments, I feel like I have played them. When look at his photos, I see myself. Looking at his strength and belief has encouraged me a lot as an artist. My work is dedicated to him. “In addition to his music-related drypoint monoprints in this show, Lebohang also included some prints about children and the challenges the face growing up, often with one or no parents. He believes that the environment into which a child is born determines the development of that child.
